Donald Trump: June 12, 2018 Meeting with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un Back on

Gold Silver Reports (GSR) – Donald Trump: June 12, 2018 Meeting with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un Back on — One week after abruptly canceling a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, President Donald Trump announced the June 12 summit is back on. But he tamped down expectations that one meeting will be enough to solve all the problems between the two nations.

While hailing the promise of an unprecedented summit, Trump also sought to tamp down expectations by saying that “we’re not going to go in and sign something” at the Singapore meeting. Instead, he said, “we’re going to start a process” on an agreement to have Kim eliminate the nuclear weapons that have generated global tensions for years.

“I think it’s a ‘getting to know you’ meeting-plus, and that could be a very positive thing,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

Friday’s announcement capped eight days of uncertainty that started May 24, when Trump said he was canceling the June 12 summit because of offensive comments made by the North Korean government.

Following the meeting, Trump and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo emerged from the White House alongside Kim Yong-chol and his aides, lingering for a few minutes at the White House lawn while talking to the North Korean officials before waving them goodbye.

Earlier, Kim Yong-chol delivered a letter from the North Korean leader to Trump during their meeting at the Oval Office.

Trump told reporters after the end of the meeting that he had not yet read the letter.

Upon his arrival at the White House, Kim Yong-chol was greeted by Chief of Staff John Kelly before heading, along with several other officials, towards the Oval Office entrance.

Trump said he has more sanctions he’s prepared to put on North Korea, but he struck an optimistic tone about the thawing relationship, partially evidenced by the fact that Kim Yong Chol is the highest-ranking North Korean official to visit the U.S. in 18 years. “I think they’re OK,” Trump said of relations between the two nations. “I think they’re good.” – Neal Bhai Reports (NBR)
