Total cases as of Wednesday morning stood at 11,439, according to the health ministry’s website. This includes 1,305 who have been discharged and 377 deaths.
While it took the country 70 days to report its first 5,000 cases, the next 5,000 have come in just six days, indicating a rise rate of the infection. Recoveries, however, improved over Monday and Tuesday with India reporting more 200 patients who’ve been discharged.
The total number of confirmed Covid-19 infections in India crossed the 11,000-mark this morning, less than 24 hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the nation-wide lockdown will be extended to May 3.
